The Greater Pottstown Foundation was the wish of Pottstown’s legendary newspaper editor, Shandy Hill (1901-1992), who was the first editor of the Pottstown Mercury after the paper was established in 1931.  The Foundation focuses on Arts and Education for the youth in the local community.

The Foundation believes that the key to our future lies in the education of our young, in the hopes of eventually creating a new norm.  We currently sponsor several educational awards and support educational programs throughout the Greater Pottstown Community. Our primary scholarship program, the Shandy Hill Essay Contest Scholarship is granted annually in honor of Shandy Hill’s contribution to the Pottstown area.  This award is based on an essay competition of senior class students from four area high schools.  The winner receives a $30,000 scholarship (over four years).

GPF also supports several other educational programs, as well as a number of other causes consistent with our stated mission above.
